Secret 7” is an annual event that combines art & music
for a good cause.
Secret 7” takes seven tracks from seven of the best-known musicians around and presses each one 100 times to 7” vinyl. They then invite creatives from around the world to interpret the tracks in their own style and these unique sleeves are then exhibited before going on sale with all proceeds going to charity. You don’t know who created the sleeve, or even which song it’s for, until you have parted with your cash - the secret lies within. I was lucky enough to be selected to form part of the 2014 exhibition at Mother London, where my sleeve was exhibited alongside designs from the likes of Sir Paul Smith and Jeremy Deller.
This was my sleeve for the Elbow track ‘Grounds For Divorce’. When I saw the title of the track, I remembered an old photograph of my Great Grandparents that had been up in our house growing up. Pictured getting off a plane back from their holidays, my Nan is left to struggle with all the luggage as my Grandad’s too busy taking care of his duty-free cigarettes. I thought it worked perfectly with the song title so I reworked the original into the design pictured above.
